Manchester property investor network’s giveaway set to enable investment by city-based developer

A Manchester based property company will benefit from a £100,000 boost in capital to invest into the city’s vibrant housing market thanks to the Refurb-Ed property network and property lender Together.

Enable Property Group’s Basit Mohammed scooped the interest free one year cash boost at the Refurb-Ed Manchester’s first anniversary event.

Over 100 property investors regularly attend the monthly Refurb-Ed networking event held at Together offices on the Cheadle Royal business park, Stockport.

“Everyone’s name was put into a hat, and it was a real surprise to hear my name being called out as the winner,” said Basit. “We are a family business with a Manchester property portfolio built up over more than a decade, but we will probably use this money for a new, stand-alone development.”

Enable, based in Longsight, get the benefit of £100,000 on interest free terms for one year. The Refurb-Ed network was set up in October 2022 by experienced property developer Sabina Thorpe, and RIBA architect Grant Erskine.

“The events have proved to be a major success,” said Sabina, of Green Brick Property. “In just a year, we have hosted well over 1,000 people from first time investors to experienced property professionals, such as Basit.

“Bringing property investors together is generating investment into the economy in Manchester and the training we provide helps to create much-needed quality housing to rent. “We have established ourselves as the leading property investors network in the UK and the £100,000 giveaway, in partnership with Together, was unique.

“Never before has a property investors network given away £100,000 and we’ll be tracking Basit’s progress and inviting him back to tell us how he’s used the money.”

Basit said: “The monthly meetings are lively and there’s always opportunities to learn from the organisers and guest speakers.”

Sabina, originally from Manchester, returned to investing in the area after building a property portfolio in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. She has a diverse portfolio of properties, including high quality HMOs for business professionals, student lets, and large commercial conversions.

Grant Erskine RIBA founded his architecture practice in 2010 and has offices at Mosley Street, Manchester. Over the last five years, Grant has overseen the delivery of over £7 million pounds worth of projects, taking them from pre-purchase, through planning, building regulations, tender, contract administration to completion.

The duo came together in 2018 to found Refurb-Ed, providing property training, coaching, and networking for anyone looking to build their property portfolio.
