West Sussex housebuilder’s donation helps people with learning disabilities live independently

Hft, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities to live with more independence and choice across Sussex, has been given £1,500 from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

Hft’s service, Chestnuts, in West Sussex, supports people with many different types of learning disability, and the charity has particular experience in supporting people with complex needs. Its focus is to ensure everyone is helped to live their life, their way and achieve the best outcomes possible.

The charity has now received a donation from housebuilders, Barratt and David Wilson Homes, and Emma Macdonald, Community Fundraising Manager at Hft, said it’s help like this that means the charity can continue to help those people who need it.

She said: “Hft is a charity operating across England and Wales, and this generous donation will enable the three people supported by Hft at Chestnuts to enjoy the use of a new carpet. This needed to be replaced on the stairs and hallway of their home due to general wear and tear.

“We are very privileged at Hft to support so many people with learning disabilities, all of whom have different aspirations and ambitions. However, it is through donors such as Barratt and David Wilson that we can help the people we support live the best life possible.”

The donation was given as part of the leading developers’ Community Fund, which provides support to worthy causes in the region.

Tammy Bishop, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Sales Director, Southampton Division, said: “After we heard Hft Sussex’s work supporting people with learning disabilities in the region, we had to help, and it has been a real pleasure to hand over this cheque today.”

Hft is a national charity supporting more than 2,200 adults with learning disabilities. Established in 1962, the charity uses its own unique Fusion Model to consistently deliver high quality, person-centred support across all its services. Services range from supported living to residential care – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day. Hft also helps people with learning disabilities to take part in daily activities, make friends and find work.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
