Green light given for new laboratory and office scheme in King’s Cross, London
Kadans Science Partner has secured planning permission from the London Borough of Islington, for a new, purpose-built laboratory and office building in London’s Knowledge Quarter, King’s Cross.
The new build development has been designed with a specialist professional team and the Kadans Science Partner inhouse development team. This investment represents the physical implementation of Kadans’ long-term model to bolster both specialist facilities and the presence of Tileyard Quarter within the London Knowledge Quarter.
To respond ‘quickly and innovatively’ to an ever-changing landscape of scientific requirements, flexibility was a core driver in the design inception. Careful consideration into tenant uses, structural grids, floor loadings, servicing, and ceiling heights was taken to provide a ‘long-term, highly adaptable’ space.
Matching these principles with informed space planning, the design of the building increases space and light, which is said to be “fundamental to modern working environments and talent retention”.
Will Fogden, Senior Development Manager, Kadans Science Partner, commented: “It is exciting to reach this important milestone in the programme. With 5-10 Brandon Road completing in March 2024, it was important for Kadans to continue developing space to allow our tenants opportunities to expand in the area.
“4 Brandon Road will provide more much needed, ground-up, purpose built commercial laboratory space for the ever-growing Knowledge Quarter.”
The 51,500 sq ft building will bring Kadans’ world class knowledge in the design, development, delivery and operations of R&D buildings to the cluster. The new scheme will deliver robust lab infrastructure, empowering an ecosystem for further innovation.
