No Limits in Southampton ‘bowled’ over with housebuilder’s support for young carers

No Limits in Southampton has been thrilled to organise a pre-Christmas bowling trip for its Young Carers group, thanks to leading housebuilder, Barratt Homes.

The independent charity supports vulnerable children in the region by providing free information, advice, counselling, and advocacy services. With Barratt’s funding help, it has arranged an evening of respite for some of the young people it looks after via its Young Carers in Southampton project.

Thanks to the developer’s donation of more than £1,500, two groups of 24 young carers spent a fun-filled evening at Hollywood Bowl in Southampton. What’s more, Barratt’s support is also funding a Christmas party for No Limits children as well as a few other trips planned for the new year.

Emma Bowley, Young Carers Project Worker, said: “We’ve been delighted to be able to provide respite breaks for our young carers with Barratt’s support. They are an amazing group of people who provide invaluable support to their families, and this is our chance to give them a treat. Thank you from everyone here.”

Talking about her trips out with the charity, young carer, Nikola, said: “I really enjoy going out with the Young Carers group because it is a break and a reward for taking care of my brother at home.”

No Limits is one of Barratt Homes’ official charities for 2023, and the developer has been raising money on behalf of the organisation throughout the year. Megan Hamlyn, Barratt Homes Marketing Manager, said: “Barratt is committed to supporting worthwhile organisations in the communities where it is building, and it’s a pleasure to be able to support No Limits this year – the charity is doing such great things for young people who need it in the local area. I’m so glad to hear what an excellent time the charity’s young carers had on their evening out and we hope they have a fantastic festive time at their Christmas party as well. They really deserve it.”

No Limits was set up in 1993, when it was realised that young people needed somewhere to go for information, advice, and counselling. The charity employs 120 staff and has support from a further 100 students and volunteer workers.

The Southampton charity’s Young Carers project is for children and young people aged 8-18 years old whose lives are affected by caring for an unwell or disabled family member. The charity offers information, advice and support around being a young carer, in addition to fortnightly group sessions and holiday activities they can take part in.

Barratt Homes is committed to supporting the charities and organisations which improve the quality of life for those living in the region. As one of the housebuilder’s official charities of the year, Barratt has been arranging multiple fundraising initiatives in honour of No Limits during 2023.
