New guide released to support businesses in Kendal

As work is due to resume in the New Year on the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme, the Environment Agency is informing local businesses they can be resilient, prepared for flooding and apply for compensation where they are experiencing a loss of earnings due to the construction of the flood defences.

The Business Resilience Guide is now available online.

Work resumes on the scheme on Monday, January 8, 2024. When completed, the flood risk management scheme will better protect 1,150 local businesses in the town, which employ 6,105 people.

The flood protection will save £725m from future flood damage and represents a £277m benefit to the local economy.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Kendal Flood Scheme is a major engineering project involving extensive construction work that requires road and path closures at times to ensure public safety.

“Once the scheme is completed it will provide better protection to more than 1,100 local businesses and 1,400 homes. We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum and are offering compensation for loss of earnings to any business that is affected.”
