50,000 Newcastle residents and business owners now able to ‘future-proof’ premises

Over 50,000 residents and business owners in Newcastle are now able to ‘future-proof’ their premises with access to faster and more reliable broadband thanks to a new digital network rollout by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform.

Work has now been completed in the Kenton, Arthur’s Hill, West Denton, Scotswood, Benwell Grange, Walker, Walkergate, Holystone, St Anthony’s and Cowgate areas of the city. CityFibre’s rollout will now focus on the Fenham, Benton, South Heaton, Chapel House, Lemington, Chapel Park and Kingston Park areas throughout 2024.

CityFibre started building the network in 2019, making Newcastle one of a growing number of locations to benefit from a full fibre upgrade, which guarantees less lag, fewer drops in connection and higher speeds of up to 2.5Gbps.

Paul Wakefield, CityFibre’s Senior Partnership Manager for Newcastle, commented: “We are delighted to have over 50,000 premises ‘Ready For Service’ in our Newcastle rollout, bringing the best digital connectivity available to the city.

“As we continue our build into even more areas of Newcastle, now is the time to check your postcode and find out if you can also benefit from improved gaming, working and streaming.”

Full fibre networks use 100 per cent fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. CityFibre’s full fibre network is the most advanced of its kind. It is designed to detect and resolve faults as they arise, and support our increasing data consumption for decades to come.

Steve Manning, ICT Solutions Architect at Newcastle City Council, added: “CityFibre’s investment will ensure Newcastle has the digital foundations it will need to thrive as our lives move increasingly online in the years ahead.

“We’re really pleased to see the progress achieved to date on the rollout and look forward to seeing how this infrastructure can be leveraged to drive growth and development in the area.”
