Luxury care provider joins ranks of elite businesses in 2024 list of “Top Employers”
A leading all-inclusive luxury care home provider with twelve homes across England has been awarded the prestigious “Top Employers Certification” for the first time in 2024’s Top Employers UK list.
The Berkley Care Group has been named a “Top Employer” by the Top Employers Institute, an international certification body recognised for its comprehensive analysis of human resource practices and employee conditions.
The title is highly respected worldwide, with the institute certifying over 2,000 Top Employers in 120 countries across five continents.
The Top Employers Institute programme certifies organisations based on the results of the HR Best Practice Survey. The comprehensive survey assesses organisations based on six HR criteria, consisting of twenty topics, including talent acquisition, work environment, leadership development, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and more. Only organisations that reach the upper echelons of achievement in these are certified as the UK’s “Top Employers”.
In addition to scoring high on these metrics, Berkley goes above and beyond to ensure the well-being of their staff. For example, they have partnered with The Care Workers’ Charity to provide grants to help colleagues who are experiencing financial hardship. These grants support staff members with daily living costs, utility bills, grocery shopping, travel expenses, and rent among other things.
The care group also celebrates staff achievements through the Berkley Care Awards. Last year, 200 staff members attended the Chesterton Hotel in Oxfordshire to witness the presentation of 14 awards which recognised the incredible contributions made by team members across all the homes.
Comments left by existing and former employees on anonymous review website, Glassdoor, and employment website, Indeed, offer insight into staff satisfaction at the care home provider. One employee described their decision to join Berkley as the “best decision I have made”. Another said that they are “six years in and loving it”, while others say that they “love working for Berkley” and are “proud to be working for a forward-thinking company”.
As part of Clariane, one of Europe’s largest healthcare providers, Berkley has also been awarded the “Top Employer in Europe 2024” award, giving them recognition as one of the best employers not just in the UK, but across Europe. This accomplishment places them shoulder-to-shoulder with prestigious businesses such as Amazon, BMW, and Pfizer.
The award comes amidst a period of expansion at Berkley, with the luxury-care group having opened its latest luxury home, Jubilee House, in Leamington Spa in April of last year.
Berkley’s care homes are especially renowned for the fantastic events often hosted for residents. Just a few weeks ago, residents at Jubilee House were treated to a surprise visit by penguins, while residents of Portobello Place in Chesham were taken ice skating.
Their staff team are also frequent recipients of regional care awards. For example, Vjollca Narkaj, a Senior Healthcare Assistant at Ryefield Court, was awarded “Dementia Carer of the Year” at the Great British Care Awards in London last November.
Earlier in November, Joanna Lowndes, a carer at Burcot Grange and Lodge in Bromsgrove, was awarded the “Dignity in Care Award” for the West Midlands region. Having won in the regional awards, both recipients will be attending the Great British Care Awards National Finals in March 2024.
Commenting on the achievement, Laura Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of Berkley Care Group, said:
“We are immensely proud to receive the Top Employers Certification this year. This recognition is a testament to our dedication and commitment to excellence in every aspect of our operations, from our innovative care practices to our supportive work environment for staff across all our care homes.
At Berkley, we believe in creating a community where both residents and staff are taken care of. As we continue to build on our reputation as being the leading provider of luxury all-inclusive care in the UK, we remain focused on maintaining these high standards and fostering a culture where every team member feels valued, supported, and empowered.“
