The Original Baker offers a taste of North Yorkshire at the Houses of Parliament

The North Yorkshire artisan bakery, which is renowned for its award-winning pies, represented the Thirsk and Malton Constituency.

On 31 January 2024, Commercial Manager, Richard Oglesby, and Innovation Manager, Kate Hill (pictured), travelled to Westminster to showcase a variety of products at ‘A Taste of North Yorkshire’.

Hosted by Kevin Hollinrake MP, who extended a personal invitation to the Original Baker, the event aimed to celebrate the exceptional food and drink produced by independent businesses in North Yorkshire.

With each of the region’s MPs selecting one business to feature, The Original Baker was extremely proud to accept the invitation and seize the opportunity to share samples of its award-winning products with Members of Parliament from both Houses.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was present among the guests and tasted the Slow Roast Pork and Cider Pie, declaring it delicious. Minister of State for Trade Policy, Greg Hands, also made an appearance, praising the pork pies, sausage rolls, and pasties as 'extremely tasty and innovative.'

Mr Oglesby said “It was a wonderful experience. We were provided with a great opportunity to talk to Members of the House and share not only our products, but also the story of The Original Baker”. Speaking of the event’s organiser, he also said “Kevin Hollinrake was very passionate about promoting Yorkshire suppliers and championing the food produced in Yorkshire.”

The occasion served as a platform to not only celebrate the region's outstanding independent businesses but also to showcase the culinary skill and dedication to quality that has earned The Original Baker its reputation for excellence.
