Digital salaries continue to rise in Yorkshire as regional data industry continues to grow
A new study from a technology talent business reveals that salaries across the region’s growing data industry continued to rise over the last 12 months.
The new salary study from SPG Resourcing examined salary data in January against the same month last year across a number of data sector positions throughout the region.
Business architects saw the largest average salary increase of 7.5 per cent from £50k for the same period in 2023 to £53,750 in the six months to Jan 2024. Architects (technology) experienced an average salary increase of 2.75 per cent from £77.5k in 2023 to £79,632.
Solution architects in Yorkshire saw average salaries remain the same as in 2023 at £77.5k, while senior business analysts experienced a slight increase of 1.9 per cent to £55k, up from £54k in 2023. The average salary for a data engineer dropped significantly by 21 per cent to £55k from £70k just 12 months ago.
Last year, the study identified the data engineer role as one of the most challenging positions to fill. However, the availability of job opportunities and supply of candidates has increased as more organisations focus on their data capabilities to enable positive changes.
Sam Hameed, co-founder and managing director of SPG Resourcing, commented: “The technology sector continues to grow, but we have seen some of the heat leave the jobs market over the last year. It’s clear that the shifting demands of technology are impacting salary expectations, with AI starting to assist in everyday tasks and drive efficiencies.
“Yorkshire remains a hotbed of digital activity with a high incidence of ongoing world-class projects and initiatives underway.”
By 2025, the global data and analytics industry is estimated to be worth $390bn according to projections from market intelligence firm IDC, ranging from use as business insight provision to improving customer service and operational efficiencies.
SPG Resourcing is a technology talent advisory business with offices in both Leeds and Newcastle. It provides interim and permanent technology resources to a wide range of businesses, from insurance and financial services to health, housing and large FTSE businesses.
