Celebrating culinary diversity and local talent in a family-friendly atmosphere

Newcastle's Exhibition Park is set to host a brand-new Food and Drink Festival over the upcoming May Bank Holiday weekend, from May 4th to May 6th.

This inaugural event aims to bring together the community in a celebration of diverse cuisines, local flavours, and talented artisans.

Event Director, Michael Johnston, shared his thoughts on the festival's inception: “We have been working on this behind the scenes for the past three years and it feels great to get it over the line. Exhibition Park is the perfect place for this event and we're incredibly excited for the early May Bank Holiday!”

Nikki Orrell, Festival Manager, emphasised the festival's focus on local talent and culinary diversity, stating, “We are thrilled to bring a celebration of world cuisine to Newcastle reflecting the vibrant diversity of the city. The food will be delicious and the large Artisan Market will be packed full of local delights. This is a fantastic opportunity for local traders and small businesses to showcase their produce.”

Attendees can expect an array of attractions catering to all tastes and ages. The festival will feature Live Chef Demos, offering insight into the culinary arts with a minimum of 8 demonstrations scheduled throughout the weekend. For music enthusiasts, a lineup of at least 12 live acts will grace the stage, providing entertainment for all to enjoy.

The heart of the festival lies in its dedication to showcasing local flavours and supporting small businesses. The Artisan Markets will offer a diverse selection of fine cheeses, indulgent treats, and regional specialties. Meanwhile, the Street Food Arena will take attendees on a global culinary journey, from Middle Eastern delicacies to beloved British favourites.

In addition to the gastronomic offerings, the festival will feature independent bars serving a variety of beverages, including craft ales, specialty ciders, and premium spirits. Families can look forward to free live entertainment and performing arts shows, as well as free kids' activities, ensuring a weekend of fun for all.
The festival's inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere aims to provide a platform for local talent while inviting the community to come together and enjoy the rich cultural tapestry of Newcastle.
