Not just funding: The transformative impact of Skills Bank on businesses

A pot of funding. That businesses can apply for.

We’ve all heard that before, and for some of us savvy business people, it invokes stress hormones to start pumping through our bloodstream. Hefty approvals processes, falling down at the last hurdle, massive applications that are hard to navigate, alongside near impossible eligibility standards to compete with.

That’s why South Yorkshire Skills Bank is working to dispel this and provide businesses with funding that powers growth.

If you need specific training to enable your already flourishing business to grow even further, then we can help.

You choose the course, you choose the provider, and we help fund it.

Our Skills Advisors support you throughout the application process, so you’re never sat screaming at your computer as it refreshes after you’ve just written in 3000 words of why your business is worth it.

They’ll help you to identify your challenges, explore opportunities, and get the maximum benefits you’re eligible for.

Aside from all this, Skills Bank is more than just a fund; it's part of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority's vision for a stronger, greener, and fairer region. Aligned with the strategic economic plan, we aim to support businesses in creating a prosperous South Yorkshire.

But don’t just take our word for it!

Richard Walsh, Sales Manager at Advanced Engineering Techniques, said: “The Skills Bank training has made a big difference to our business. It has provided Team Leaders and Supervisors the confidence and knowledge to make significant changes across all departments.

“With the financial support of Skills Bank it allowed the business to develop its leadership team and take a step closer achieving overall performance targets.

“Skills Bank also co-financed laser operator training.  Our new 15kw fibre laser is now fully installed and operational. We are currently witnessing improvements in efficiencies across a wide range of products, we are also now witnessing a gradual reduction in energy costs.

“This has really helped us to remain productive and competitive within the market.”

Advanced engineering techniques is a Sheffield based engineering company that has benefitted from Skills Bank support to upskill their staff and improve ways of working.

The company, based in the Holbrook Industrial Estate, applied for funding to deliver bespoke leadership training.

14 Team Leaders/ supervisors enrolled in the “Whyy Change” leadership training program aimed at improving their communication, planning, and delegation skills across the business.

The bespoke 22-hours’ worth of training offered through the South Yorkshire Skills Bank has also assisted the company in reducing the amount of internal and customer rejections that were coming in as well as reduce the cost of poor-quality.

Following the training the company are reporting that it has seen welcomed improvements across the business and customer rejections have been reduced significantly.

So, are you ready to take the leap and see what we can provide for you?
