Black Country businesses urged to share their views in latest Quarterly Economic Survey

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce is calling on businesses to share their views in the latest Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) that opens today, August 19th.

The Black Country Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) gives an up-to-date picture of the performance of the Black Country business community and will gauge how businesses are feeling for the first time since the General Election in July.

The Chamber is urging members and non-members to have their say and complete the online survey that will run for the next three weeks, closing on September 12th.

The QES Quarter 3 data reveal will take place on October 17th where businesses will have the opportunity to hear the latest Black Country data, alongside the national data, to give attendees the picture of the local and national economy.

The last QES for Quarter 2 revealed that in the lead-up to the General Election, 71 per cent of Black Country businesses said turnover would improve over the next 12 months up from 59 per cent in Quarter 1.

The last survey also found that 62 per cent of businesses believed profitability will improve over the next 12 months compared to 53 per cent three months earlier.

The survey consists of tick-box questions that cover several key areas, such as employment, investment and this quarter’s theme, employee health and well-being.

Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse commented: “The Black Country Chamber of Commerce QES acts a reliable indicator of regional economic performance.

“The QES for Quarter 3 will be an important indicator of how businesses across the region are feeling following the General Election. The survey results are a great source for us at the Chamber to review performance, concerns, and views of our businesses.

“We use the data when meeting with local MPs and council leaders to develop economic strategies and policies to promote and enhance growth and enterprise.

“But we can’t do this without Black Country businesses – so we strongly encourage all businesses, whether Chamber members or not, to complete our survey every quarter. It takes less than five minutes, and the information produced is invaluable.”
