Chamber team prepare to ‘Step into Sept’ in aid of the YMCA

Colleagues from the Black Country Chamber of Commerce are lacing up their walking boots as they prepare to ‘Step into Sept’ to raise funds for the YMCA Black Country Group.

The ‘Step into Sept’ challenge is in celebration of the YMCA’s 180th anniversary where the YMCA team will mark the historic milestone by completing the Three Peaks challenge in May 2025.

Throughout September the Chamber team have set themselves the challenge of collectively walking a total of 50,333 steps per day, the equivalent of climbing the three peaks, to raise vital funds for the YMCA Black Country Group, their charity of the year.

In addition to the ‘Step into Sept’ challenge set by Chamber colleagues, Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse will be joining the YMCA Black Country team to complete the Three Peaks challenge in May.

The month-long fundraiser will culminate on Monday 30th September when the Chamber team will walk from their headquarters at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park to the YMCA City Gateway site to present the fundraising cheque.

YMCA Black Country Group is a local charity that is part of the largest youth organisation in the world. It is an inspirational charity that does important work in the local community to support young people and help change lives.

Working with children, young people and their families, the organisation aims to create thriving communities through housing, childcare, health & wellbeing initiatives, training & education and support & advice.

Black Country Chamber of Commerce CEO Sarah Moorhouse said: “Our ‘Step into Sept’ fundraising challenge will be the first of several Chamber fundraising initiatives to support and raise awareness of the YMCA.

“By the end of September we will have taken 1,509,990 steps as a team, which is the equivalent of over 640 miles!

“We hope the funds raised will make a real difference to people in need across our region.”
