Filtronic creates jobs in production line boost

A technology firm helping spur Elon Musk’s aerospace endeavours has created jobs in a plant investment.

Filtronic has fitted two new production lines at its NETPark base, in Sedgefield, County Durham.

Bosses say the move has added 12 staff and will boost productivity at the company – which makes parts for telecommunications networks – by as much as 75 per cent.

They add it will help the company continue securing “significant contracts”, which include a multi-million-pound deal to supply rocket and spacecraft maker SpaceX with power amplifiers and similar products for its Starlink constellation that uses low Earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet connections.

The production line boost comes ahead of Filtronic moving to a “purpose-built” NETPark base early next year, which it says will double manufacturing space “and significantly expand production capabilities.”

Mark Black, chief operations officer, said: “Meeting the increased production demand is our priority, and we are committed to maintaining our high standards of operational excellence.

“With NETPark’s flexibility, we can grow both in the short and long-term.

“These two new lines are vital to supporting our recent successes and will allow us to further scale our output.”
