Mayor goes the distance for men’s mental health

To raise awareness for men’s mental health, York and North Yorkshire mayor David Skaith will run 5km every day in November in support of Menfulness, a charity focused on men’s wellbeing.

Celebrating six months in office, Mr Skaith is committed to fostering healthier communities and aims to improve access to outdoor spaces and sports across the region.

He said: “I have experienced my own mental health journey, I know that for me it’s important to keep active and keep talking.

“That’s why charities like Menfulness are so important. They provide a safe space to have those honest conversations and to be active with others.”

“In the UK, 13 men lose their life every day due to poor mental health, and that is a statistic that needs to change.

“We need to come together as a community and support one another to tackle loneliness, isolation and to encourage people to be open about what they are going through.

“Places like Menfulness mean that we can do that. I’m excited to take on this challenge and hopefully encourage more men to talk about their mental health.”

Menfulness offers activities and support, including a running club, to help men in York and nearby areas engage in physical activity and access mental health resources.
