£1.5 million investment to power green skills growth
A major investment is set to equip South Tyneside businesses and residents with essential skills for the future of the energy sector.
3t Training Services, the UK’s largest safety-critical training provider, has secured a £1.5 million contract to deliver fully funded ‘Green Skills Bootcamps’, thanks to support from South Tyneside Council and the Department of Education under the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee.
The bootcamps, open to residents aged 20 and over with a South Tyneside postcode, will focus on training for onshore and offshore roles in the wind, carbon capture and hydrogen industries, including training for roles such as a wind technician, offshore engineering technician and site safety supervisor.
Charlie Guthrie, head of renewables at 3t, said: “We are delighted to secure this funding, which will help to equip South Tyneside people and businesses with much-needed skills to boost employment and deliver the energy transition.
“As the UK shifts to greener and cleaner power, there is significant demand for skilled workers in the wind, carbon capture and hydrogen sectors and our bootcamps will help to bridge any skills gaps.
“The lifetime skills guarantee aims to strengthen the North East’s reputation as a leader in green energy and make a significant contribution to the UK’s energy transition.
Delivered at 3t’s advanced training centres in Newcastle and Teesside, the four-to-five-week programmes also include guaranteed job interviews with potential employers.
Charlie added: “The programmes will help to open up new career opportunities for those living and working throughout South Tyneside.
“Our mission is to ensure the energy sector has a skilled and confident workforce ready to contribute to the UK’s net-zero goals and by offering these free training opportunities to South Tyneside residents and collaborating with businesses across the region we can do just that.”
Places on the bootcamps are limited. To find out more or to apply for a place contact greenskills@3tglobal.com.
