Dakota Hotels appoints new general manager
Dakota Hotels has named Mark Spanton as general manager for its upcoming Newcastle hotel, set to open on the Quayside in Spring 2025.
Mark, who joined Dakota in 2020, previously led the Leeds property to multiple industry awards, including a Michelin Plate and recognition at the Oliver Awards.
He said: “It’s an honour to lead the opening of Dakota Newcastle – I’m delighted to bring our synonymous old-school hospitality to such a vibrant and bustling city.
“Newcastle is renowned for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, just like Dakota!”
A 2024 Master Innholders scholarship recipient, Mark brings nearly 20 years of hospitality experience to his new role.
He added: “It’s a privilege to be awarded the Master Innholders Scholarship, and the learnings from Cornell’s General Managers Programme will prove invaluable for this opening.”
“I look forward to connecting with our peers and neighbours in the industry ahead of our opening, and building a superb internal team passionate about guest experience.
Dakota Newcastle will feature 118 luxurious rooms, a destination Bar & Grill, and waterfront event spaces, creating over 120 jobs as part of the city's regeneration efforts.
