Shields filmmakers’ call action on new studio plan

An award-winning North East production company is set to enhance the region’s creative landscape with plans for a new post-production studio in South Tyneside.

Red Stamp Productions, based in South Shields, has secured £30,000 from Innovate UK to develop a state-of-the-art post-production facility and help take its Beach Road base “to the next level”, with work set to begin in the coming weeks. The initiative is supported by South Tyneside Council as part of its drive to attract more creative industry jobs to the area.

In addition to this milestone, the company has been selected as one of ten UK firms to represent the nation at the prestigious Asian TV Forum and Market in Singapore this December, showcasing its expertise on a global stage.

Since being founded by Connor Langley and Michael Lambert in 2020, Red Stamp has rapidly grown, focusing on storytelling that highlights the North East. With recent filming projects, including a documentary about a local man competing in his first surfing championship despite severe disabilities, the studio’s commitment to regional stories remains strong.

Connor said: “The new studio will help take us to the next level and will be a real asset for South Tyneside.

“It will basically enhance our general editing capability, our sound editing and pretty much every job associated with the post-production process.

“There is so much going on in the region at the moment, with Crown Works Studios progressing in Sunderland and The Northern Studios in Hartlepool, it feels like a really exciting time to be a filmmaker in the North East and it’s about time too.

“There’s no reason why young filmmakers should be leaving the region to get jobs in the film and TV industry – there should be openings here in our region and this new studio will allow us to recruit new staff and have the technology here on hand for them to learn the trade.” 

Councillor Margaret Meling, lead member for economic growth and transport at South Tyneside Council, added: “Red Stamp Productions are part of the fabric of the borough’s creative business community and the company’s reputation is growing by the day.

“As a film friendly Council, it’s a real pleasure to play a role in their development, and I’m sure the creation of the new studio will be a genuine boon not just for Connor and Michael, but the wider filmmaking community.”
