Architects climb high with new bouldering hub
A North East architecture and design firm has unveiled plans to transform a former cinema into a climbing and fitness hub.
Woolsington-based Architects-Group is leading the creative vision for Northumberland Bouldering’s indoor bouldering centre in Morpeth.
It is working in collaboration with EP Climbing, the company behind climbing walls for the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The proposals for the former Coliseum Cinema include climbing walls, a gym, a retail space, a ‘healthy’ café and a wellness area offering yoga and Pilates classes, kickboxing sessions and children’s parties.
A mezzanine floor is also part of the design.
The project, which requires planning approval, aims to provide a dynamic and inclusive facility for fitness enthusiasts of all ages, tapping into the growing popularity of bouldering as a fun and accessible activity.
Tony Harmieson, managing director of Architects-Group, which operates out of AirView Park, said: “Our designs are set to deliver an exciting and dynamic climbing centre that will be a big benefit to local people and climbing enthusiasts while simultaneously bringing a popular building back to life.
“As design-led architects, we have a passion for beautiful, eye-catching creative concepts and to be involved in a transformative project like this one, within the heart of this popular town, will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase our expertise and creativity.”
