Green light for Sunderland redevelopment project

A major redevelopment in Sunderland has been approved, promising to transform a long-derelict site into a thriving commercial and employment hub.

The Deptford Terrace project, led by developer Jomast with planning consultancy from Lichfields, will deliver over 165,000 ft² of industrial, warehousing, and trade counter units, alongside a coffee shop and EV charging station, helping create “a vibrant hub for businesses”.

Bosses say the development will “boost local employment” by creating approximately 325 new operational jobs, helping to “drive economic growth in the region” and providing “much-needed industrial space” to Sunderland.

With sustainability at its core, the project includes "state-of-the-art facilities" and a six-figure investment to enhance local biodiversity.

Adam Hearld, development director at Jomast, said: “We’re delighted to receive the go-ahead for the development of the site.

“The approval is a positive step towards delivering much-needed industrial space in the region that supports Sunderland’s long-term strategic economic goals.”

The site’s accessible location is expected to attract both regional and national businesses, further driving economic growth in the area.

Construction is set to begin next year, with Jomast collaborating with Sunderland City Council and Invest North East England (INEE) to maximise inward investment opportunities.
