Robotics firm pioneers new water tech hub

A Harrogate-based engineering company has launched a water technology hub in North Yorkshire creating eight jobs.

Synthotech, known for advanced monitoring and robotics for utility companies, is investing in the hub following a £7.3 million funding boost for no-dig water and multi-utility technologies. 

Known for its “cutting-edge” pipeline inspection and repair systems, Synthotech’s robots are designed to detect leaks, improve efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

The SynthoCAM H20, the company’s latest innovation, uses CCTV technology to inspect drinking water pipes without disrupting supply. This ensures leak-free pipelines while reducing the need for costly and disruptive excavations.

Synovate, Synthotech’s innovation division, recently secured two Ofwat Water Breakthrough Challenge contracts worth £5.8 million. These projects will deploy advanced robotics to identify and repair leaks within live water mains, reducing interruptions and costs.
