Business network delivers £1 million in social value
A responsible business network in Sheffield has delivered more than £1 million in social value to the city since its inception in 2019, helping tackle social and economic challenges.
Sheffield Business Together (SBT), co-funded by Business in the Community and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, connects businesses with voluntary groups and public sector organisations to support local communities.
Over the past year, SBT has delivered 42 projects, engaged 193 business volunteers and contributed £218,331 of in-kind support.
Education outreach initiatives have benefited more than 16,000 students, while environmental and social action projects have seen thousands of volunteer hours donated.
Louisa Harrison-Walker, chief executive of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and chair of the SBT, said: ‘It fills me with immense pride to see how the impact and reach of Sheffield Business Together has grown year on year.
“Now, half a decade on from its launch, the programme continues to recognise that when we work together, we can have a greater impact and leave a longer lasting legacy than working individually.
“As a Chamber, we can’t thank our members, and everyone who helps the programme, enough for their support.”
The initiative has also helped establish the Sheffield Pride of Place board, a business-led coalition that brings together the private, public and voluntary sectors to help drive long-term “transformative” change.
Carolynn McConnell, place lead for Sheffield, from Business in the Community, added: “Since our launch in 2019, Sheffield Business Together has gone from strength to strength.
“When we set out on this journey our network comprised of seven founding employers – five years later we now have 600-plus employers in the network, who are generously giving back to our amazing city.
“Every business and employer – no matter how small – can make a difference by supporting one of our campaigns.”
