Rugby legends line up for Ad Gefrin event
A Northumberland whisky distillery and museum is set to host an evening with two rugby greats during this year’s Six Nations tournament.
Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon museum and whisky distillery, in Wooler, will welcome England and Scotland legends Dean Richards and Finlay Calder for a special event on Thursday, February 13, prior to the Calcutta Cup fixture between England and Scotland on February 22.
The Old Friends & Rivals dinner will feature spirited conversation between the two former international players, with guests enjoying welcome drinks, canapés, dinner and a charity raffle in aid of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which funds motor neurone disease (MND) research and was founded by former Scotland and Newcastle Falcons great Doddie Weir in 2017, after he revealed he was suffering from the disease.
The foundation, which is Ad Gefrin’s chosen charity of the year, had raised £8 million for MND research by the time Doddie died from the condition in November 2022.
As part of its commitment to community engagement, Ad Gefrin hosts a programme of events throughout the year, bringing people together through its museum, distillery and hospitality offering.
