Biotech firm creates jobs in Quorum Park expansion

A biotech firm is creating jobs in a headquarters expansion.

HistoCyte Laboratories has doubled floor space at Newcastle’s Quorum Park.

Bosses say the move will support ten new jobs and expand production capacity.

They add the 4000sq ft space, in Quorum Park’s Neon building, will also allow the business, which develops medical testing products, to install large tissue culture laboratories, a cold room and increase storage space.

Colin Tristram, HistoCyte Laboratories’ chief executive, said: “Since moving to Quorum Park in 2019, our sales have grown by approximately 30 per cent each year, and while our headcount has grown with demand, the premises haven’t.

“Until now.

“Our new large tissue culture laboratories are where we will grow cells for our products, and there will be a cold room for raw materials and finished stock, as we will create our packaging and distribution point here.

“There will be a write up area for scientists, as well as histology space, where we will process the cells and cut material on to microscope slides.”

The firm, which has a 20-strong team, secured its expansion through landlord Shelborn Asset Management.
