New bar brings country charm to Heaton

A new kitchen bar inspired by the Northumbrian countryside has opened in Newcastle. 

The Barn Door, created by local entrepreneur Tracy Tunn, combines her childhood memories of the Northumbrian village of Lynemouth with years of hospitality experience. 

The two-storey venue, housed in a former aesthetics clinic on Heaton's Chillingham Road, serves a variety of drinks, including cocktails, wine and draught beer, alongside healthier food options like air-fried chicken wings and burgers. 

The rustic barn-themed decor, complete with 3D murals of hay bales and reclaimed furniture, brings a touch of the countryside to the city. 

Tracy, who is running the venue alongside family members including her partner Permi, as chef, and her son, Adam, as bar manager, said: “Where I grew up, the cornfields and farms were our playground. 

“Those memories have stayed with me and I always wanted to create a venue that brings a bit of that lifestyle into the city.” 

“Chillingham Road is definitely on the up, and it’s a great community to be a part of.” 

The licence for The Barn Door was secured by Sarah Smith, partner at Newcastle-based law firm Sintons, while senior associate Danielle Dale advised on the lease.  

Sarah added: “Tracy’s done an incredible job of creating a space that’s welcoming, and the fact it’s all inspired by her own personal memories here in the North East makes it all the more special.”
