Airport joy as it soars in European rankings
An airport has been named one of Europe's best by passengers.
Newcastle International Airport is set to receive the ‘Best Airport in Europe’ award for the two to five million passenger category at the Airport Service Quality Awards.
The accolade, which follows a £20 million investment in the airport’s facilities over the last 18 months, is based entirely on passenger feedback, with the airport scoring highly for check-in, security and its departure lounge offerings.
Nick Jones, chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be recognised as one of the best airports in Europe, and it is fantastic to know that we received this award because of our customers’ positive feedback.
“This recognition is testament to the dedication and hard work of our teams and business partners who go above and beyond to deliver a world-class experience.”
Councillor Tracey Dixon, leader of South Tyneside Council and lead of the airport's LA7 shareholders, added: “This is another vote of confidence in the airport.
“By putting travellers at the heart of the business and continuing to invest in passenger services, the airport continues to go from strength-to-strength.
“The airport is of pivotal importance, providing a key gateway to the region and generating millions of pounds for the local economy.
“I’m delighted it, and its team, are being recognised in this way.”
