Kinewell Energy boosted by Equinor KLOC deal
A cleantech operator has powered its progress with a contract renewal.
Kinewell Energy has signed a multi-year global deal with Equinor.
The agreement will see Equinor continue to use Kinewell’s KLOC software, which bosses say cuts offshore wind farm development costs by improving cabling layouts.
Based in Newcastle, Kinewell Energy works with operators across Europe, the US, Japan, South Korea and China.
Norway-headquartered Equinor operates the Sheringham Shoal, Dudgeon and Hywind Scotland wind farms, which it says provide power to around 750,000 UK homes.
It is also working alongside SSE Renewables and Vårgrønn to build Dogger Bank – which will operate as the world’s largest offshore wind farm – in the North Sea, from a Port of Tyne-based operations and maintenance site.
Dr Andrew Jenkins, Kinewell Energy founder and chief executive, said: “We are absolutely thrilled our global partnership with Equinor has been renewed.
“As a result, Equinor will continue to leverage the significant savings in both cost and time that our software delivers.
“With a typical 1GW offshore wind farm’s inter-array cable system costing around $140 million, our KLOC software provides very significant project savings.”
