Firm backed to build business hub at ex-colliery

A warehousing and industrial property firm has secured approval for a 150,000sq ft scheme on ex-mining land.

Network Space Developments has been backed to build 12 storage and distribution units on a 30-acre site between Wakefield and Castleford.

The venture, based at Newmarket Lane, off Junction 30 of the M62, will join existing Amazon, Newcold and Phoenix Healthcare hubs on the site of the former Newmarket Silkstone Colliery.

Bosses say the 200-acre expanse could provide work for as many as 3000 people once fully developed.

Ste Barnes, Network Space Developments’ managing director, said: “The Newmarket Lane area has become established as one of Yorkshire’s most attractive logistic hubs, and we are delighted to have secured planning that will help promote this prime location even further.

“This is an ideal location for national and international operators.”

Newton-le-Willows-based Network Space Developments was supported by planning consultancy Spawforths.
