The story of Robinsons began in 1963 when John Illingworth, the Chairman of Robinsons Petroleum Distributors, formed Robinsons Heating in order to meet the demand of home heating. A handful of engineers were initially employed in order to service the oil boilers of the customers who purchased oil from the company. It was during this time that Alan Lee and Granville Heaton (both former Managing Directors) began their apprenticeships as fitters. During the 1970’s, the group was re-structured and Robinsons Petroleum Distributors became an authorised distributor for Esso, employing some of the staff belonging to Esso – and consequently increasing capacity to handle larger heating installations. The 1980’s saw Robinsons Heating riding high on a wave of success. With Alan Lee as Managing Director, and Brian Steele and Chris Spencer in support, the company went from strength to strength. High calibre contracts were won and carried out successfully under the direction of Granville Heaton, and the name of Robinsons began to be synonymous with excellence. It was in this period that our planned and responsive maintenance division was formed. Although changes have been made to the Robinsons name in recent years, the quality and commitment to contracts and clients alike has not changed – indeed some staff who began their careers with us in the 1980’s are still employed, providing a host of experience and proving that loyalty to staff and customers alike guarantees longevity in our business. To the present day… Our long serving members of the services teams provide stability and reliability, and our apprentices are trained to the highest standard, consistently winning awards from their colleges for dedication to their training. These young men work alongside our experienced engineers to gain invaluable knowledge and skills. They also bring a fresh approach to our work, making Robinsons the successful and progressive company it always has been. We are certain that the name of Robinsons will continue as a by-word for skill and professionalism well into the future.
