Sarah has worked for Veolia for nine years and worked her way up the ranks before being appointed Director of Hazardous Waste Services in April 2013. In her current role, she is responsible for delivering the most environmentally sustainable recycling, recovery and disposal solutions for customers. Sarah also sits on various technical working groups for the Environmental Services Association (ESA) and represents them on committees within the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services. Sarah joined Veolia straight from Sheffield University, after completing her four years Masters degree in Chemical Process Engineering. During her time at Veolia she puts much of her development down to her supportive manager who enabled her to get involved in a spectrum of projects, which enabled her to develop a variety of business focused skills. These projects have seen her travel to France and Germany and throughout Northern Europe – where she has vivid memories of it being -15oC and wearing insulated overalls! A defining moment in her career was when she made her move from a central role in 2010, to operations – a role she actively sought. Since then Sarah has had European standards published for assessing the quality of solid fuel to, most recently, leading the team responsible for the destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons programme, on behalf of the British Government. From idolising ballet dancer Margot Fonteyn for how she approached the competitive world of dance, to her school maths classes, where her teacher encouraged her onto the STEM career path, Sarah has always been driven. Her work ethic continues to drive her forward, with a focus on the bigger picture, owing to future plans to embed herself further into wider Veolia group ventures.
