Filtronic expands headline SpaceX partnership
A technology firm has expanded a headline partnership with a global entrepreneur’s interstellar venture.
Filtronic is increasing supplies to Elon Musk’s rocket and spacecraft operator SpaceX.
The agreement comes after the County Durham-headquartered radio frequency component maker announced a £16.8 million deal to send power amplifiers and associated apparatus to SpaceX’s Starlink constellation, which uses low Earth orbit satellites to deliver high-speed internet connections.
Bosses say the expansion has pushed full-year trading performance ahead of market expectations.
Nat Edington, chief executive at Filtronic, which also operates from a Leeds site, said: “We are delighted to enter this important new phase of our partnership with SpaceX.
“The new agreement demonstrates the value of our technology to one of the world’s most innovative companies.
“This continues to be an exciting time for the business, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with SpaceX.”
Alongside its County Durham headquarters, which are based on Sedgefield's NETPark, and its Leeds hub, Filtronic operates a further site in Manchester and last year opened an office at Cambridge Science Park.
